AKBAŞ, Ali

Writer and poet (b, 1942, Maraba Town / Elbistan / Kahramanmaraş). He attended Maraba Village Primary School and secondary school in Elbistan and high school in Kahramanmaraş. Then he graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Literature, Department of Turkology. He served as a teacher of Turkish at Elbistan, Çayeli and Adana High Schools for Boys. He continued to work as an assistant director at the Gazi Institute of Education and then as a lecturer on Turkish at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Education, Department of Science.

His early poems were published in Öncüler review. Later they were published in Divan* (member of the editorial board), Doğuş, Kanat Edebiyat, Töre, Erguvan, Türk Edebiyatı, Dolunay reviews. His poetry book Kuş Sofrası (Bird Table) won the Children’s Literature Award in 1991 given by the Writers Union of Türkiye.
