AKIŞIK, Kenan Mümtaz

Poet and writer (b. 1925 Ahlat / Bitlis). He attended primary school in Ahlat (1936), elementary school in Tarsus (1940) and high school in Diyarbakır (1943). He graduated from İstanbul University, Faculty of Law (1947). He worked as the Attorney General in Bucak (1952) and Erciş (1953-56) and as a lawyer in Bitlis (1957-69) and Ankara (1974-90). He was the Bitlis parliamentary deputy (1969-73) for the Republican People’s Party. In 1990, he started his researches on the underdevelopment of the Islamic world. He is a member of the Turkish Authors Association and the Ankara Organization of the Republican People’s Party.
