AKKANAT, Cevat

Poet and writer (b. 6 January 1964, Kireç Işıklar village / Dursunbey / Balıkesir). He attended the Balıkesir Commercial High School (1983), and graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature (1991). He completed his postgraduate thesis, Gelenek ve İkinci Yeni (Tradition and the “Second New Movement”), at Kırıkkale University. He has worked as a teacher of literature in Nevşehir and Kırıkkale since 1991. He is a member of the Writers Union of Türkiye.
His articles and poetry have been published in reviews such as Oluşum, Nitelik, Bireşim, Kardelen, Harman, Kırağı, Yalnız Ardıç, Kıyı, Ekin, Kafdağı, Edebiyat Ortamı, Kültür Dünyası, Cuma, Yedi İklim, Dergâh, İnsan Saati, Karçiçeği, Yitik Düşler, Türk Dili, Virgül, Hazan, Taşra Edebiyat, Kırağı, Yolcu, Aşiyan ve Lika (editor, 1998) and in newspapers such as Yeni Şafak, Millî Gazete, Akit and Sağduyu. He prepared and presented culture and art programs on Nevşehir ART FM Radio (1995- 97). He has been the poetry editor of the web site Dergibi.com. He won the Writers Union of Türkiye Literary Critique Award in 2002 with his work Gelenek ve İkinci Yeni Şiiri (Tradition and the “Second New Poetry Movement”).
