ARAYICI, Oktay

Playwright (b. 1936, Rize – d. 22 Ocak 1985, İstanbul). He graduated from İstanbul University, School of Economics (1961). At first he worked as an actor and director in private theaters. He worked as a manager for the Turkish Radio and Television Corporation in various cities. When he was appointed to another position from the management of the Educational Programs Department, he left his job (1981).

Dışarda Yağmur Var (It’s Raining Outside, 1960), his first play, which featured social contradictions observed with genuine understanding, was performed at the Gençlik Theater. He shared the Yunus Nadi Award in 1970 with Güngör Dilmen with his screenplay İkinci Hedef (The Second Target) and the Art Appreciation Association Award in 1971-72 with M. C. Anday with his play Seferî Ramazan Beyin Nafile Dünyası (The Empty World of Seferi Ramazan Bey). He won the Avni Dilligil Theater Award and the Turkish Language Association Play Award in 1979 with his play Bir Ölümün Toplumsal Anatomisi (Social Anatomy of a Death), which was performed at state theaters. In the same year, the television movie At Gözlüğü (Blinkers), the script of which he wrote, was selected as the movie of the year the by the Radio and Television Correspondents Association. His play Rumuz Goncagül (Nickname Goncagül) was premiered at the Ankara Art Theater and won the Art Foundation Award in 1982 and was performed during the first season of the Fatih Theater in 1985.
